Our company was founded in 2015 by Jordan Lee with a mission to democratize access to 529 plans by making them easier to understand and simpler to invest in them. Jordan's background is in technology, and on that basis he has developed a technology solution for 529 plan investing that keeps the investment side of the business simple while developing features that encourage gifting into 529 plans and help families find new ways to save more for college. Jordan has passed the Series 65 regulatory examination (known formally as the National American Securities Administrators Association Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination), which is an examination and securities license required for individuals to act as investment advisers in the United States. Jordan has degrees from Harvard College, Yale University, and Princeton University. Prior to founding Backer, Jordan was a product manager at a software company and CEO of a technology startup. The rest of the Backer team has decades of combined experience working in finance, technology, and education.
